Charleston Four Corners- Loren Proper, 86, formerly of Charleston Four Corners and Cobleskill NY, died on Sunday, April 12, 2020 while in the care of the Mountain Valley Hospice in Gloversville.
Born May 17, 1933 in Seward NY, he was the son of Jerry and Jennie (Roe) Proper.
Loren served in the U.S. Army from 1953 until he was honorably discharged in 1962. While serving, he married his loving wife, Clara Strobeck, on August 22, 1954 before returning to duty. After his departure from the Army in 1962, he returned to his wife where they lived most of their lives in Charleston Four Corners. They lived there for many years and then moved to Cobleskill and for the past three years in Johnstown.
In Loren’s free time he would spend his weekends with his wife taking her out on his motorcycle with their beloved toy poodle. When he wasn’t riding his motorcycle, he would go camping up in St. Lawrence area and loved to play miniature golf.
Loren is survived by his wife, Clara (Strobeck) Proper of Johnstown NY, his children: Jennie (Tim) Ramsey of Chattanooga, TN, James (Grace) Proper of Sloansville, NY, Laurie (Brian) Smith of Caroga Lake, NY; his grandson, James (Stacy) Proper Jr. of Charleston Four Corners, NY; his three great-grandchildren: Brooke Ann Proper, Thomas Proper and Payten Proper
A private burial will be held at Christian Church Cemetery in Charleston Four Corners, NY.
Memorial contributions can be made in Loren’s name to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley Inc., P.O. Box 40, Howes Cave NY, 12092.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
