Cobleskill- Lily Frances Rua, 89, formerly of Cobleskill, died Sunday, November 27, 2011 at St. Andrew's Village, Indiana, PA, where she had resided since 2005.
A daughter of the late Stefano and Libera (Buscaglia) Peracchio, she was born August 3, 1922 in Manhattan, NY.
Lily and her husband moved from Astoria to Cobleskill in 1952. She had studied opera at the Metropolitan Opera in Manhattan, NY prior to this. While living in Cobleskill she was active in the Cub Scouts, the local hospital auxiliary, served as president of the Business and Professional Women's organization, and was also involved in the Republican Party.
She was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church, often volunteering at church dinners, and assisting with the church linens.
Lily was predeceased by her husband, Maximillian F. Rua, who was the owner of the former Rua & Sons, Inc. in Cobleskill, and her sister, Giovanna Peracchio Longo.
Survivors include her three children: Maximillian Frank Rua, Jr. and his wife, Catherine Ann of Cobleskill, Frances Mary Monk and husband, Timothy Hugh of Rural Valley, PA, and Christine Carol Rua of Boston, MA; her grandson: David Monk and his wife, Steffanie of Seattle, WA.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill, with Father Thomas F. Holmes as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.
