Lillian Gannon

Middleburgh-Lillian V. Gannon, 83, passed away Monday, February 25, 2013 after a long illness. She died peacefully in the arms of her husband at their home.

Lillian was born in Jersey City, NJ on April 20, 1929. She was the daughter of William P. and Mary Dineen Sullivan. She lived her young life in New York City, graduating from Washington Irving High School. She and Richard were married on May 1, 1954 at St. Paul's Church in Manhattan. From NYC she moved upstate to Middleburgh. Over the years Lillian lived throughout the upstate area including Catskill, Troy, East Greenbush, West Sand Lake, and then finally back to Middleburgh.

Family was foremost in Lillian's life. She had a full time job raising seven children. She was a true domestic engineer. Lill enjoyed gardening, baking, and cooking. She was a recycling pioneer way before it was recognized as the right thing to do. She was an avid reader. Among her favorite things was to share a cup of coffee or tea with a friend. Lill especially loved giving her time to those who needed a helping hand.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sister Marie Sullivan and her son William P. Gannon Sr. (Karen) of Central Bridge.

Lillian is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Richard J. Gannon a retired NYSP; her children: Judith Richards (Mark) of Middleburgh; Maureen Shoemaker (Timothy) of Manning, SC; Elizabeth Hough (Jack) of Corinth; Kathleen Marshall (Greg) of Middleburgh; Margaret Aragosa (Michael) of Glenville; and Amy Reinhart (John) of Middleburgh. She is also survived by 16 precious grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

Lill was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary, Post 248 and was their Chaplin for several years. Lillian was a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Church and a Eucharist Minister as well as a volunteer within the church community.

Calling hours will be held Friday evening March 1st at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh from 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on March 2nd at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Middleburgh, NY. Spring interment will be in Middleburgh Cemetery.
