Cobleskill- LeRoy H. Moon, Sr., 87, of State Route 145, died Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown following a brief illness.
Born November 10, 1925 in Milwaukee, WI, he was the son of Earl W. and Elsie Mae (Dishno) Moon.
LeRoy was a proud veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1943 until 1945 as a motor machinist's mate third class. He was a member of the Fred L. Stilson American Legion Post 57 in Cobleskill.
A registered nurse, LeRoy retired from Harlem Valley Psychiatric Center in Wingdale, NY following twenty-five years of employment.
He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cobleskill where he served in various capacities, such as usher and treasurer.
He and his wife have lived in the Cobleskill area for the past seventeen years, as he enjoyed retirement and especially mowing his nine acres.
Survivors include his wife: Lucille (Martin) Moon, whom he married April 26, 1979; his three sons: LeRoy H. (Linda) Moon, Jr. of Richmondville, Earl (Colleen) Moon of Glenville, and Paul (Patricia) Moon of Fultonham; his stepson: Ronald Harvey of Norfolk, NY; thirteen grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill with Father Jeff L'Arche officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Cremation will follow the Mass and a committal service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 28 at Visitation Cemetery, Norfolk, NY with military honors.
