Jefferson- Leonard B. Haviland, 87, formerly of Westkill Road, died Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Fulton Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing.

Born October 8, 1930 in Mount Kisco, he was the son of Sanford and Edith (Bailey) Haviland.  Leonard was a United States Army Veteran, proudly serving from 1948 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1952.

Leonard was a jack-of-all-trades, retiring as a technician foreman for a dealership in Yonkers.  He served as an apprentice for both plumbing and electrician as well as being a mechanic and carpenter.

Leonard cherished the outdoors, and loved being a woodsman.  He moved to the Jefferson area over twenty years ago, building his own retirement home.  He had a fondness for dogs.

His wife, Gisela, predeceased Leonard on April 10, 2015.

Cherishing his memories are his daughter, Sylvia Pinerio of Middleburgh; four grandchildren: Daniel (Midori) Dingee of Central Bridge, Ian (Rebeccah) Dingee of Esperance, Miel Pinerio of Oneonta, and Jessica Villa of Holmes, NY; fourteen great-grandchildren; three siblings:  Douglas Haviland of Meadow Brook, AL, Charles Haviland of Larchmont, NY, Carlisle Haviland of Rye, NY and Gatrude Wrixon of CA; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery in the spring.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Shelter of Schoharie Valley, Inc., PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
