Warnerville- Leonard Barbara, 89, of West Fulton Road, died Sunday, July 1, 2012 at his residence following a short illness.

Born October 26, 1922 in Brooklyn, he was the son of Augustus and Marie Barbara. Upon completing high school, Leonard enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served his country during World War II as a rifleman in the infantry. Leonard was decorated with several service medals, including the Purple Heart.

He retired as a mechanic from the former Republic Aviation in Long Island. He and his family moved to this area in 1985. Leonard was a member of the Old Timers Bowling League in Cobleskill.

He married Regina daCosta June 4, 1950 and she predeceased him on May 25, 1993. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Carol Ann Barbara on October 10, 2001

Survivors include his two daughters: Lorraine Barbara of Howes Cave and Paula (John) Shay of Clifton Park; and five grandchildren: Jason Mayoka, Joseph Mayoka, Ryan Miller, Jessica Walsh, and Courtney Walsh.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 12:00 PM on Tuesday, July 3, 2012 at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery, Hillview Section. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial contributions may be made to Leatherstocking Honor Flight, PO Box 621, Cobleskill, NY 12043.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh.
