Lena Collins

Cobleskill- Lena M Collins, 96, formerly of Lincoln Avenue, Cobleskill, passed away on September 10, 2016 at Palatine Nursing Home in Palatine Bridge, NY where she had been a resident for several years.

Lena was born in Franklinville, NY, on February 16, 1920, the child of Lucy Kerr Weber and Leslie Weber. She graduated from Ten Broeck Academy in Franklinville and attended RIT in Rochester and Jamestown Business Institute.

She came to Cobleskill in 1940 and began work in the offices of Dr. Ward and Virginia Oliver. She also worked for National Bank and Trust Company before raising her family. She was married to the late Donald G Collins on December 23, 1942, who predeceased her on October 10, 1976.

Lena was a member of the Cobleskill United Methodist Church and thoroughly enjoyed many church activities, including the United Methodist Women (UMW), bible class, and various church committees. She was also active in the former New Century Club, AARP, American Legion, and the Bassett Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed raising flowers and gardening in and around her home. She had a special love for cardinals and birds in general.

Lena had 3 siblings who have all predeceased her, Louis Weber of Tampa, FL, Roberta Weber Bailey of Wilmington, NC, and Alfred Weber of Delevan, NY.

Lena is survived by a daughter, Kathy (Mark) Collins of Laconia, NH, a son Gary (June) Collins, of Carlisle, NY, a granddaughter Casey (Bill) Collins of Berne NY, and a grandson Adam (Torie) Collins of Croghan NY.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with a period of visitation preceding from 11:30 AM until 1:30 PM. Inurnment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
