Summit- Lawrence H. Dibble, 78, of Sawyer Hollow Road, died Monday, December 3, 2012 at his residence with his loving family at his side.

Born January 29, 1934 in Jefferson, he was the son of Omar and Ora (O'Neil) Dibble.

A lifelong area resident, Larry attended Middleburgh Central School and enlisted in the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict from 1951 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1954. He was decorated with the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal.

Larry was a dairy farmer for much of his life, and had retired from the Summit Highway Department, where he was superintendent. He also served on the Summit Town Board for eight years. He was a member of the Schoharie County Highway Superintendent Assoc., the Democratic Club, and the Summit Volunteer Fire Department.

Larry cherished his family and had a great fondness for animals. He took pride in caring for his property, enjoying cutting the lawn and foresting the wood.

Survivors include his wife, Eva (Brooker) Dibble, whom he married August 28, 1954; three children: Terrie (James) Gaida, Steven (Deirdre) Dibble, and James (Santa) Dibble, all of Summit; five grandchildren: Matt Gaida, Melinda Gaida, Hannah Dibble, Chelsea Dibble, and Steven Dibble, Jr.; four great-grandchildren: Ethan Gaida, Mikayla Gaida, Logan Eggleston, and Gabriel Eggleston; and two brothers: Roger Dibble of Hartwick and Carlton Dibble of South Worcester.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Victor Zaccaro officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Wed. at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Summit Cemetery with military honors.
