Carlisle- Kenneth B. Thompson, Jr., of Route 20, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.

Born December 25, 1941 in West Point, NY, he was the son of Kenneth and Mabel (Rasley) Thompson. Kenneth started school in Cherry Valley and attended schools in several states as well as Germany, having traveled with his Army family.

Ken enlisted in the US Navy in 1960 and was stationed in various places around the world and stateside until receiving an honorable discharge in 1964.

Following his military service, he came home and married his childhood friend, Nancy Weidman, on August 4, 1966 in the Lawyersville Reformed Church. They purchased a home in Carlisle in 1967 where they raised two sons, Russell and Robert.

Mr. Thompson was employed at General Electric in Schenectady for thirty-four and a half years, retiring June of 2000 due to an accident at G.E.

Ken was a former member of the Carlisle Volunteer Fire Department and a proud member of Local 301 IUE in Schenectady.

Mr. Thompson taught knot tying to Boy Scouts and meat cutting and grinding to the neighbor children and his grandsons. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and drawing in his spare time. Also, vacationing in Old Forge with his best friend, Honorable Judge Larry Salisbury and his wife, Linda, of Seward, brought Ken much pleasure.

Those family members who predeceased him were his parents; son: Robert; brother: Leonard; nephew: Brian; aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Thompson of Carlisle; son: Russell of Amsterdam; grandsons: Mark, Charles, and Daniel; beloved Molly, dog; brother-in-law: Frank Weidman; sister-in-law: Linda Thompson; niece: Kelly (John), nephew: Jeff; two great-nephews: Tyler and Ryker, all of WA; two aunts: Ruth Thompson of Schenectady, and Betty Thompson of Cooperstown; cousins in PA, MA, and NY.

The family would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith, Frank Weidman, Sue Bortel, and Deb Ward for assisting his wife during Ken's illness and passing.
Also, much gratitude to the doctors and nurses on A-3 for their special care and thoughtfulness.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill, with Rev. Jared Van Wagenen IV of Howes Cave Reformed Church and John Drieson of Delanson officiating. Family and friends are also invited to attend a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 PM. Burial will follow the service at Lawyersville Cemetery.
