Cobleskill- Kenneth D. Moore, Sr., 89, of Lake Road, peacefully passed away Friday, October 9, 2020 at Albany Medical Center with family at his side.
Born October 26, 1930 in Middletown, NY he was the son of Bert and Elizabeth (Gillette) Moore. Growing up during the Great Depression and World War II era, he would often get himself in trouble by taking food ration stamps meant for his family to instead buy food for his cat. When he was a young teenager in New Jersey he met and fell in love with his beloved Teddy Bear, Harriet (Dittmann), whom he married November 4, 1950. The young couple moved to Cobleskill where he worked at the Guernsey Farm in East Cobleskill. After welcoming their first son, they returned to New Jersey and continued to grow their family to include three more beautiful children. In the late 1960’s, Ken and Harriet decided it would be best to leave the urban sprawl of New Jersey for a simpler life in the country. The family returned to Cobleskill to farm on the Dow Farms and then operated their own dairy, Harken Farm, in Lawyersville, until 1975. Ken retired from Cargill Feeds in 1991. In his retirement Ken could be found meticulously maintaining his cherished home on Lake Road. He was always busy gardening, chopping wood, or could be found cooking or baking for his family, perfecting recipes such as his much-loved pineapple upside down cake. Forever a family man, Ken was always there for his children and grandchildren, attending dance recitals, school concerts, dairy shows, graduations, and every birthday celebration.
Forever cherishing his memories are his children: Kenneth D. (Sarah Dewell) Moore, Jr. of Cobleskill, Michael (Kathy) Moore of Cobleskill, Barbara Moore of Howes Cave and Timothy (Jim Murray) Moore of Richmondville; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
Ken was predeceased by his beloved wife of sixty-five years, Harriet and his grandson, Samuel Cootware.
Private services will be held for the family with burial following Bramanville-Prospect Cemetery in Howes Cave, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made to Marathon For a Better Life, PO Box 268, Warnerville, NY 12187 or the Animal Shelter of the Schoharie Valley, PO Box 40, Howes Cave, NY 12092.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
