Cobleskill- Kathryn Shafer Bellinger, 91, formerly of Cobleskill, died on December 10, 2009 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford, NY following a short illness.
Kathryn was born in Cobleskill on June 2, 1918, the daughter of Lena and Erwin Shafer. She graduated from the William H. Golding High School, attended Syracuse University and graduated from American International College in Springfield, MA.
She enjoyed serving her community in many ways. An active lifetime member of the Cobleskill United Methodist Church, Kay taught Sunday School and served as director of the Methodist Youth Fellowship. She was one of the original members of the Auxiliary of the Cobleskill Hospital and Bassett Hospital of Schoharie County and served there for 50 years. Kay was a past president, secretary, and director of the Town of Cobleskill Historical Society. For ten years, while her children were growing up, she was a Brownie and Girl Scout leader.
Kathryn was predeceased by Jerry Bellinger Jr., her husband of twenty-eight years.
Survivors include four children: Jack (Yorkette) Mattice of Patchogue, NY, Jill (Richard) Clouthier of Penfield, NY, Linda (John) Kodra of Modena, NY, and Stephen (Nancy) Mattice of Roxbury, NY; eight grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at the Cobleskill United Methodist Church, Chapel St., Cobleskill with a reception in the social hall immediately following. Officiating will be Rev. Pam Mikel-Hayes. There will be no calling hours. Spring interment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
