Cobleskill- Kathleen Pearl Salamida, 88, of North Street, died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at her residence with her loving family at her side.
Born January 23, 1924 in Derby, CT, she was the eldest daughter of Richard Hodges and Carmen Lorraine (Peterson) Martin.
Kay graduated from Providence Nursing School as a Registered Nurse in 1946. She was employed at the former Cobleskill Community Hospital from 1970 until 1991, and retired from the position of Head Nurse.
She was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church in Cobleskill.
Survivors include her sisters: Jane LeCount of Warrensburg, and Nancy Coles of West Palm Beach, FL; her children: Kathleen Salamida of Albany, Patricia (Walt) Mahtani of LaJolla , CA, Margaret (Jeffrey) Pangman of Cobleskill, Nicki-Ann Salamida of Cobleskill, and Gregory (Beth) Salamida of Salem, MA; her grandchildren: Laura de la Cruz, Brian (Kim) Steinmuller, Timothy (Michiko Tanzawa) Herman, Carmen Spicer, Christopher, Andrew and Trevor Pangman, Jeanne Giles-Salamida, Jake, Nick, Brooke, Megan, and Sean Salamida; and three great-grandchildren: Lilah, Eva, and Gemma Steinmuller.
Kay was predeceased by her husband, Dominick Salamida, whom she married April 3, 1948, her daughter, Jeanne Salamida, her sister, Margaret Kelly, as well as her brother, Henry Martin.
The family would like to give special thanks to Velichia Perriotti and Polly Henzler for the wonderful and loving care that they provided to their Mother, "We could not have done it without them".
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, St. Christopher's Place, Cobleskill with The Rev. Dr. Nina George-Hacker officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the church an hour prior to the service, from 10 to 11 AM. Inurnment will follow in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
