Richmondville- Katherine "Kay" M. Matthys, 85, formerly of Richmondville, died Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Kingsway Arms Nursing Center in Schenectady, where she had been a resident for the past two years.
Born May 24, 1930 in Richmondville, she was the daughter of Clarence and Julia (Marek) Mitchell.
Kay graduated from the former Richmondville Central School. She and her husband lived in Wharton, TX for many years prior to her moving back to the area several years ago. She retired from Kenneth Josie, CPA where she was a data input clerk.
She was a member of the Richmondville United Methodist Church. Kay enjoyed fishing with her husband, needlepoint and other crafts.
Her husband, Cotton Matthys, predeceased her on May 5, 2001 along with her brother, Clarence Mitchell.
Survivors include four nieces: Susan Sperbeck of Cobleskill, Sherry Myers of Schenectady, Michelle Soloman of Wharton, TX, and Lynette (Thomas) Masek of Wharton, TX; a brother-in-law: Clifton Matthys of Wharton, TX; grand nephew: Jason Soloman, and grand niece: Elizabeth Masek.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Richmondville United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Smith officiating. Private inurnment will take place in Evergreen Memorial Park in Wharton, TX. There will be no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Richmondville United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereneaa-Putnam Funeral home, 171 Elm St., Cobleakill and Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home of Middleburgh.
