Schenectady-Kenneth Danforth Dayton passed away on January 29, 2025.
He was born on September 29, 1941, in Hobart, NY. He was predeceased by his parents, Kenneth W. Dayton, and Marjorie Danforth Dayton, his wife, Valerie F. Dayton and brother Rodney Dayton.
Dan fondly recalled growing up on the Dayton Poultry Farm in North Harpersfield, NY. Long days of hard work, good friends, and the activities of the small rural community suited him. He never wanted to leave but his parents encouraged him to do well in school and go to college.
Dan was a graduate of Jefferson Central School, SUNY Oswego, and SUNY Buffalo, where he received his MS degree. He joined the Schalmont Central Schools faculty in 1963 teaching Architectural Drawing, Driver Education, and Industrial Arts until his retirement in 1998.
In his retirement, Dan enjoyed working to complete the restoration of his historic home, relaxing at Summit Lake, looking for the perfect antique tool, and listening to the Old Crow Medicine Show.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Susan “Sue” Dayton; children, Kourtney Chimene, Kerry Dayton, Kevin (Karen) Dayton and their children, Sierra Chimene, Kelsey Roberts, Rylee Dayton, and Connor Dayton; sister, Dawn Lewis and her son, James (Aloe) Van Regenmortel and their daughter, Jasmine; as well as his brother in-law, William ( Marjorie) Bernaski; Sue’s children, John (Christine) Valchovic, Amy (Joe) Mulyca and their children, Travis and Jack Mulyca, Zane, Jake and Luke Valchovic.
A kind and generous man, Dan frequently contributed to community and charitable organizations. One of Dan’s favorite charities was the Jefferson Food Pantry and contributions can be made to the Jefferson Food Pantry, 1333 Main Street, Jefferson, NY 12093.
Services will be private. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Jefferson, NY.
