Richmondville- June Hanevy, 88, of West Main St., died Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Cooperstown Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation.

June was born November 10, 1932 to Karl and Grace (Emerson) Huggins in Ellenburg, NY.

She was a graduate of Ellenburg Central School.  Following her high school  years, she continued her education at New York State College for Teachers, which is now SUNY Albany.

She married John Hanevy on June 11, 1955 prior to moving to Richmondville.  It was here that she taught English and French at the Richmondville Central School before starting her family.  June made many long time friends among students and staff.

She decided to pursue a less demanding course of part time employment and volunteer time for family, friends and other interests including craft work, gardening, skiing, hiking and visiting the national parks.

June was very active in the Methodist church and often played piano and organ for them.  She also served on the Richmondville Historical Society, the Beautification Committee and the Planning Board.

Survived by three children, Cynthia Hanevy, John Hanevy, Dorine Hanevy; three grandchildren, Jessica Barnard, Drew Barnard, and James Barnard; and one sister, Hilda Persons of Owego.  She was predeceased by her husband and sisters, Inez Huggins and Mary Islas.

A private service will be held at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Russ Underwood of the Richmondville United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will be in Richmondville Rural Cemetery.
