Summit, NY - Julius R Kovacs, 82, passed away Friday, March 28, 2014, at his home with his family at his side. He is survived by his loving wife Mable (McGurn) Kovacs.

Born September 8, 1931 in Newtown, CT, he was the son of Paul and Veronica (Balsan) Kovacs. He also lived in Danbury and Woodbury CT. Julius and Mable retired to Middleburgh NY, 11 years ago and moved to their mountain top home in Summit NY, 5 years ago.

Julius enlisted in the United States Army in 1949. He proudly served his country during the Korean conflict until receiving an honorable discharge in 1953. He created his own business as a builder of new homes and remodeling of classic properties. He was a former member of the Hawleyville Fire Dept and Middleburgh Historical Society. In his later years, Julius enjoyed working outdoors, going to auctions, working on tractors and restoring antique gas engines.

He was a devoted husband, father, brother and uncle. Along with his wife of 52 years, he leaves two daughters: Donna Kovacs of Southbury, CT, Sandra and her husband Richard Dock of Southbury, CT; his brother: Stephen Kovacs of Danbury, CT; his sister: Velma Kovacs of Brookfield, CT; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday April 5th, 2014 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill NY. A period of visitation will start at 10:00 am with the service starting at 11:00 am. Officiating will be Pastor Jan Benson of the Summit United Methodist Church. Inurnment, with full military honors, will be at St Rose of Lima Catholic Cemetery, Sandy Hook, CT on a later date.
