Cobleskill- Julia Mae Bufo, 88, formerly of Cobleskill, died Tuesday, August 2, 2011 at Albany Medical Center.
Born June 13, 1923 in Seward on the family farm, she was a daughter of Alice Chase. Julia was a ;ifelong area resident and graduated from the former Cobleskill Central School in 1941.
She worked for the Cobleskill Community Hospital for a short time and later as a sales clerk for Greene's Endicott-Johnson Shoe Store for many years.
Julia was a talented seamstress and make crafts for the Office of the Aging to sell. In her younger years she enjoyed fishing and later bingo. In her later years, she enjoyed visiting with her friends over breakfast at McDonald's. Julia loved animals, especially her longtime companion "Muffy" the big white cat.
Most of all, she loved her family and never missed sending a birthday card.
She attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Gardnersville for many years.
Julia was predeceased by her husband, James, in 1971. It was then that she moved to Cobleskill.
Survivors include her two daughters: Yvonne Stafford of Sharon Springs and Karen Fancher of Edmond, OK; her "adopted son": John Knauer of Troy, NY; her brother: Arnold (Roxanne) Eckerson of Mayfield; three nieces: Arlene (Greg) Spencer of Mayfield, Suzanne (Sean) Nash of Mayfield, and Linda (Larry) Salisbury of Gardnersville; a nephew: Arnold Eckerson, Jr. of Albany; three grandchildren: Cynthia Stafford of Frankfort, NY, Carol (Dan) Willman of Sharon Springs, and James O'Keeffe of Dallas, TX; and ten great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, August 5, 2011 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill with Rev. Donald Klob officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 10 to 11 AM, prior to the service. Burial will be in Zion Rural Cemetery, Seward, NY.
