Middleburgh- Joyce S. Binder, 77, of Decker Road, died Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at her residence with her loving husband at her side.

Born September 1, 1936 in Catskill, she was the daughter of Asa W. and Sarah A. (Duffy) Dutton.

Joyce attended the one room schoolhouse in Preston Hollow and in 1953 graduated from Middleburgh Central School. She continued her education to become a registered nurse.
Joyce worked in her career for thirty-eight years and retired from Schoharie County ARC.

She was a founding member of NYSMRDD Nurses' Association where she had at one time been president. She was also one of the founding members of the National MRDD Nurses' Assoc. Having been active in both organizations, Joyce traveled throughout the states.

She loved music, playing the piano and bass violin, as well as being a member of the Depot Lane Singers.

Joyce and Adam found great pleasure in their numerous world travels.

Survivors include her husband, Adam K. Binder, whom she married January 22, 1966; two sons: Kriss (Becky) Binder of Middleburgh and Keith A. Binder of Castleton; two grandchildren: Tyler Binder of Middleburgh and Amanda Binder of Lake George; her sister: Rita (William) Hughes of Troy; and two nephews.

The family will hold a private service and inurnment. Memorial contributions may be made to Marathon for a Better Life, PO Box 268, Warnerville, NY 12187 or Alzheimer's Assoc., Northeast NY Chapter, 4 Pine Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh and Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
