It is with deep sorrow and and much love that we mourn the passing of Joseph F. Moore, 97, of Woodland Drive, Cobleskill on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Albany Medical Center following a brief illness. Joe was born on March 15, 1926 in Tampa, FL.
Joe was a caring and loving husband, father and Papa to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He had a witty sense of humor and a deep devotion to family, friends and God.
Many knew him fondly as “Joe the Barber”, from his many years of cutting hair. He loved to talk with his customers and really get to know them. Joe’s love of community was often shown by cutting hair for patients at the hospital, nursing home and going to their homes to give them free haircuts.
He was an avid sports fan and never missed an opportunity to support the students at CRCS and SUNY Cobleskill. Joe was honored in 2018 as parade Marshall for the 50 years of football at CRCS for manning the sideline “chain gang” for more than 20 years. Joe had coached youth sports, football, little league and basketball.
He was an outdoorsman as well, and loved fly fishing and hunting. Joe was a charter member in the Cobleskill Rod and Gun Club. The trout stocking program at the Cobleskill Reservoir was what he looked forward to the most because it was something everyone in the community could enjoy.
Joe was a devout catholic, a communicant at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where he had served as an usher for several years.
Treasuring his memory are his wife, Shirley B. (Coger) Moore, whom he married March 8, 1956; his two daughters, Tamera (James) Loder of Richmondville and Vicki (Stephen) Hoerz of Middleburgh; three grandchildren: Courtney (Ben) Narkis, Brett (Kristen) Loder, and Joshua Hoerz; five great-grandchildren: Ashley Narkis, Natalie Narkis, Sadie Hoerz, Jolene Loder and Jameson Loder; a brother, L. Victor Desguin (Charlotte) of Punta Gorda, FL and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Louis and Gertrude Desguin and sister-in-law, Peggy Desguin.
Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday, August, 9, 2023 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. A celebration of Joe’s life will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill with Rev. Matthew Wetsel as celebrant.
