Joseph Maraio

Cobleskill- Joseph L. Maraio, 77, formerly of Hammerstone Village Apartments, died Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Amsterdam where he lived the past five years.

Born June 21, 1939 in Brooklyn, he was the son of Louis and Anna (Galisle) Maraio.

Joe was raised in the NY City area and earned his M.A. in both Environmental Studies and Biology and General Science from City College of New York where he also received a B.S. in Mathematics, He taught both secondary math and was a teacher of Biology/Science.

He had a strong interest in nature photography and ornithology. Joe played baseball in high school, college, and semi-pro, along with softball.

He is survived by a brother, Louis Maraio of Staten Island, NY and his close friend, Robert Esnard.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cobleskill with burial following in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery. There will be no calling hours.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
