Schoharie- Joseph G. Henzler, 88, of St. Route 30, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2019 at St. Peter’s Hospice with his loving family by his side.

Born in Jersey City, New Jersey on August 27, 1930, he was the son of the late Joseph G. and Lillian (Sobleski) Henzler, Sr.

Joseph joined the United States Navy after graduating high school in 1948. He served his country honorably for five years, until 1953. Joseph worked for H. Wolfe Press in Teterboro, NJ for fifteen years.  He moved to Richmondville in 1968 until 1984, when he moved to Schoharie.  Joe worked as a part time deputy sheriff at the Schoharie County Sheriff Department, as well as Chemical Leaman Tank Lines, Inc., in Albany as a chief dispatcher and operations manager for twenty-six years before retiring.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and crabbing.  Joe was a member of the former Richmondville VFW.

Survivors include his wife, Laura (Nicolai) Henzler, whom he married July 13, 1955;  two sons: Joseph G. (Veronica) Henzler III of Esperance and Robert (Polly) Henzler of Central Bridge; one daughter: Janet Henzler (Ray Trombley) of Latham, eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Daniel) Casey, Matthew (Jamie) Henzler, Marisa Bourgon, Alex Bourgon, Stephanne (Daniel) Burnett, Jonathan Henzler, Ben (Mary) Woodhouse, Paul (Nahal) Woodhouse, and six great-grandchildren:  Brooke and Ava Henzler, Anna and Erin Casey, and Grant and Clark Woodhouse.

Private services will be held at Mereness Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043.  Spring interment with military honors will be in Richmondville Rural Cemetery.
