Joseph Corbisiero

Cobleskill- Joseph A. Corbisiero, 92, formerly of Cobleskill, died Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Nottingham Residential Health Care Facility in Jamesville, NY, where he had been a resident the past few years.

Born May 31, 1921 in Boston, MA, he was a son of Bartolomeo and Pasqualina (Santosuosso) Corbisiero. As a young boy, Joe was a concert violinist which gave him the opportunity to play his violin on the local radio. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University, where he participated in collegiate athletics and received the All New England Honors for his outstanding football performances.

Joe was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country from 1942 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1946. During World War II, he was stationed in Germany and the recipient of the Bronze Star. He was instrumental, due to his diligent lobbying efforts, in the federal government passing legislation allowing all honorably discharged military personnel to receive a Veteran's Headstone or Marker on a currently marked grave upon their death.

He began his working career with the Army Corp of Engineers, working on the Grand Coulee Dam and also in Greenland. Joe continued his engineering career at Grumman on Long Island. Upon moving to Cobleskill, Joe was employed at Howes Cave Cement Plant and then the NYS Dept. of Transportation until his retirement.

He was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cobleskill, where he was active in the construction of the new church in 1992. Joe was an active member of the B.P.O. E. #2040 in Cobleskill, a former village trustee, and an avid bowler. He enjoyed all sports, especially his Boston Red Sox.

In his later years, Joe will be remembered by his numerous health care providers as a colorful patient, full of life and good humor.

His beloved wife, Sally (Ilsley) Corbisiero, whom he married on July 10, 1949, predeceased him on September 10, 1999.

Survivors include his children: Victor (Gayle) Corbisiero of South Glens Falls, Ann (Larry) Harris of Manlius and Susan (Dale) Brown of New Port Richey, FL; a sister: Rita (Jim) Petringa of Medford, MA; a brother: John (Aileen) Corbisiero of San Antonio, TX; a brother-in-law: Robert Gregory of Montclair, NJ; six grandchildren: Naomi (Jeffrey) King of Danby, VT, Joshua Corbisiero of Wilton, Amanda Corbisiero of S.
