Joseph F. Bernocco, Jr.

November 15, 1947 — March 9, 2022

Joseph Bernocco, Jr died peacefully on March 9, 2022 after a long illness. Joe was born November 15, 1947 in Kearny, New Jersey to Joseph F. Bernocco, Sr and Lavenia Bernocco. Joe married Betsy (Stahl) Bernocco on August 30, 1969 and he and Betsy had a beautiful 52 year marriage together. They resided in Kearny, New Jersey before moving to Richmondville with their 2 children.

Joe went to Kearny High, earned his Bachelor’s Degree  in History at Nyack College and his Masters Degree in History at Fairleigh Dickinson University. Joe taught history for 26 years at Richmondville Central School and the merged Cobleskill-Richmondville CSD. While working for RCS he was an advisor for the National Honor Society and enjoyed taking those students on yearly trips. While teaching Joe was the NYSUT political representative for the area and very active in his role.

While living in Richmondville Joe became very active in his community, he was a member for over 30 years, of the Volunteer Richmondville Emergency Squad, Town Historian, a member of Schoharie County Historical Society, a Rotarian of the Cobleskill Rotary Club, and a member of St.Paul’s Lutheran Church.

In Joe’s free time, he loved gardening and his coin & stamp collections. He also enjoyed traveling with his wife Betsy and family.  One of Joe’s greatest life experiences was being a New York Delegate at the 1996 Democratic Convention in Chicago.

Joe is survived by his loving wife Betsy, his children Matthew(Donna) Bernocco and Melissa(Joel) Bartlett. In addition, he is survived by 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, Michaela, Caitlin, Nate, Natalie, Emily(John), Shannon, Tyler, Ivy, Avery and Luca. Joe is also survived by his Brother-in-law Bob(Sharon) Parks, his sister-in-law Suzanne Bernocco and her children and grandson, Sarah(Michael), Richard and Oliver.

Joe is predeceased by his parents Joseph F. Bernocco, Sr and Lavenia Bernocco, sister Barbara Parks, brother James Bernocco and grandson Brian Rushing.

Services will be held at St.Paul’s Lutheran Church in Richmondville, NY. Visiting hours are Sunday March 13th from 4-6 and a Memorial Service on Monday March 14th at 11am with a luncheon to follow.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
