John Sokolowski

Richmondville- John J. Sokolowski, 71, of High Street, passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at his ARC home with beloved family members at his side.

Born December 1, 1948 in New York City, he was the son of John and Joan (Store) Sokolowski.

Without the ability to see, John’s hearing allowed him not only to listen, but also experience the sensations of all different genres of music, enjoying the receptive vibrations and tones generated. His most listened to CD was Thriller by Michael Jackson, followed closely by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concerts.  He proudly displayed several New York Yankees posters and flags along with other sports memorabilia in his room.  John was an affectionate man who delighted in a kind touch, a loving hug and was often found with a blanket on his head or sitting cross-legged in his chair.  “Get in the Van” was a saying he was noted for loudly announcing at the most inopportune times, drawing laughter from everyone near, while also repeating comments from others who spoke with him.  John found great pleasure in social events, eating sweets and candy, and basking in the sunlight.

He is survived by his loving and caring ARC family.

A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at 10:30 am on Friday, December 6, 2019 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill.  A period of visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 10:30 am.  Deacon Dr. Gary Surman will preside.  Spring Interment will be held in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
