John Navilio

Richmondville - John A. Navilio, 85, of Franzen Road, died with his loving family at his side on Sunday, May 5, 2013 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown following a brief illness.

Born September 3, 1927 in Cliffside Park, NJ, he was the son of Anthony and Anna (Trotta) Navilio. John resided in New Jersey until moving to Richmondville in 1992 following retirement.

He was the owner of Navilio Custom Cabinets, operating most of his career in Closter, NJ. His passion for woodworking continued well after retirement, as he was known for sharing with family and friends his wood crafted Christmas ornaments on an annual basis.

A loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, family is what brought him the most joy in life.

John was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Worcester.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Justine (Vallone) of 62 years who he married August 27, 1950.

Survivors include his wife, Justine; his four children: Janet (Peter) Kuchta of New Milford, NJ, John P. (Cathie) Navilio of Goshen, NY, Joanne (Stephen) Brandt of Brewerton, NY, and James (Kimberly) Navilio of Sharon Springs, NY; three sisters: Rose Anderson and Kathy Wesler, both of Los Angeles, CA, and Mary "Dixie" Vallone of Hamburg, NJ; six grandchildren and one great-grandson: Christopher (Colleen) Kuchta, Scott (Justyna) Kuchta and their son: Henry Kuchta, Alyssa Navilio, John P. Navilio, Jr., Jenna Brandt, and Michael Brandt; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Michael Navilio.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 201 Main St., Worcester, NY with Father Ronald Green as celebrant on May 26, 2013 at 1:30pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 201 Main Street P.O. Box 156, Worcester, NY 12197.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
