West Fulton, NY-John Leone was born to George and Fanny of Queens, NY on Feb. 18, 1929 and passed away at home on Apr. 22, 2011. He is survived by his wife Martha, brother George, sister Kitty, son, Guy, daughters, Lisa, & Christine, & grandchildren, Stephen, Maria, Angela, Gina, Elliott & Allen. John was a great painter of our time specializing in oil painting and western book covers. His artistic talents were used in service to his country during the Korean conflict. John said his inspiration came from his surroundings and experiences. He was able to take the rural background of his home in New York's Catskill Mountains and instill it into his art. His paintings are authentic because he drew from his experiences in breeding, training, and showing horses. His work is recognized both in the US and overseas. He inspired family members to pursue art personally and professionally. John taught oil painting workshops to students from as close as his hometown to as far away as Tuscany, Italy. His paintings are currently being shown at Wally Findlay Galleries International.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. John and his family suggest any donations be made in his name to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 795 E. Main St., Suite 11, Cobleskill, NY 12043 and request you gather in his memory to enjoy a fine Scotch, "Cent Anni".
