John E. Janakis, Jr., 62, of Lape Road, Richmondville, passed away in his sleep on Friday, October 28, 2022.
Born on June 10, 1960 in Cobleskill, NY, he was the son of John Emanuel Janakis, Sr. and Barbara Jean Haggerty Janakis. He was a graduate of the former Richmondville Central School, Class of 1979 and was a lifetime area resident.
John was a Well Driller for JT Erkerson in Newburgh, NY for over 18 years. He was also a Detailer for Harley Davidson, a job he really enjoyed. His appreciation for muscle cars grew over the years and he owned a 1969 GTO.
John was an avid outdoors-man and enjoyed motorcycles, hunting, and fishing. He was known for his sense of humor.
John is survived by his mother, Barbara Janakis of Cobleskill, NY; wife, Valarie Thurber Janakis of Richmondville; daughter, Alexandria Grace Janakis of Richmondville; son, John E. Janakis, IV of Richmondville; brother, Darren and Becky Janakis; several aunts, uncles, cousins; his beloved black labs, Maxy and Daisy; and duck, Quackie.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 11:00AM at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, November 5th from 10:00-11:00AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow Summit Cemetery.
