John Graham

Richmondville - John L. Graham, 89, of East Durham, formerly of Richmondville, passed away on Friday, March 8, 2019 at Greene Meadows Nursing Home with his loving family by his side.

He was born, March 1, 1930, in Bridgeport, CT, the son of Lawrence and Eleanor Graham.

John was a member of the U.S. Army, serving his country from 1950 until being honorably discharged in 1952.

John had a strong interest in politics which lead him to serve as Mayor of Richmondville beginning in 1991 and held the office for 3 terms.  His hobbies included hunting, fishing, wood working, and carpentry.  John was also licensed Hamm Radio Operator and a Scout Master for Eagle Scouts.

John is predeceased by his wife, Elaine (Kalm) Graham; daughter, Sandrah Kasmin, and son, John Graham.

He is survived by his daughter: Deborah Fontaine; sons: Richard Graham, Robert Graham, and Lawrence Graham; 12 grandchildren: Dawn, Ryan, and Jessica Graham, Linda Foster, Marie Lariccia, Heather Fontaine, Michael, Trisha, and Jennifer Kasmin, Joshua Graham, and Patrick and Priscilla Brinkley; 14 great-grandchildren: Marin, Christopher, Matthew, Marissa, Abbey, William, Nicholas, Benjamin, Javier, Daniel, Raquel, John, Johsua, and Colt;  3 great-great-grandchildren: Emma, Sophia, and Charlotte; and his sister, Katherine Maida.

A memorial service will be held at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171, Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY at 10 AM on Thursday, March 14, 2019.   A committal service with military honors will commence at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY 12871 at 12:30 PM Thursday, where he will be laid to rest with his loving wife of 58 years.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
