RICHMONDVILLE- Mrs. Joan L. Markley, 73, of Franzen Road went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 28, 2006, at her residence with her family at her side.
Mrs. Markley was born July 30, 1932 in Schenectady, NY, the daughter of William H. Case and Minnie Phillips. Her father died at a young age and she was then raised by her mother and step-father, James Lovejoy.
Mrs. Markley was a 1950 graduate of Schoharie Central School. For many years she was a secretary at Ottman & Enders, Inc. in Central Bridge and for a short time was a dietary aide at Eden Park Nursing Home in Cobleskill. She retired from the State University of New York at Cobleskill where she had been a library clerk.
Mrs. Markley was a member of the Cobleskill Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary and the former Community Hospital Ladies Auxiliary in Cobleskill. She was an avid bingo player and Friday Night Card Club member. Mrs. Markley also enjoyed Nascar, being a Jeff Gordon fan.
Survivors include her husband, Philip A. Markley, Jr., whom she married September 10, 1950; 3 daughters: Phyllis Joslyn of Howes Cave, Linda (David) Butler of Richmondville, and Laura Butler (Ed Brown) of Richmondville; 5 sons: James Markley of Albany, Paul Markley of Cobleskill, Larry Markley of Richmondville, Jeffrey (Caroline) Markley of Richmondville, and Henry (Pat) Markley of Richmondville; 2 sisters: Judith E. Holmes of Cobleskill and Arlene D. Johnson of Fremont, MI; 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 PM ( noon) on Friday, June 2, 2006 at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home 171 Elm St. Cobleskill with Pastor Paul Messner officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 AM to Noon, on Friday, prior to the service. Inurnment will follow at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
