Joan Cummings

Richmondville- Joan E. Cummings, 78, of State Route 7, died Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at her residence following a short illness.

Born December 1, 1937 in Schenevus, she was the daughter of Herman and Anita (Mabie) Schmiedel.

Joan lived in Cobleskill most of her life, and later moved to Charlotteville and then Richmondville. She served on the Charlotteville School House Restoration Committee, enjoyed designing her ceramics, loved feeding and watching the birds along with her dog, Buddy. Most of all, Joan treasured her time with the family.

Joan was a receptionist for SCAAP before working at the gift shop at Howes Caverns.

Survivors include her husband, "Bing" Milton E. Cummings whom she married June 1, 1997; her children: Joe Madl of Cobleskill, Deb (Billy) Ward of Carlisle, George (Donna)
Madl of Freehold, Tina (Cliff) Cooper of Howes Cave, and Terry (Ed, Jr.) Bradt of Cobleskill; stepchildren: Lori Baker (Steve Fyfe) of Charlotteville, Lois (Patrick) Branigan of Worcester, and Lisa (Peter) Kwiatkowski of East Worcester; fourteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; her sister: Judy Smith of Schenevus; brother: Lynn Schmiedel of Ilion; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Judy Thistle officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 8 PM. Burial will be in Charlotteville Rural Cemetery.
