Middleburgh- Joan P. Casey, 91, formerly of Middleburgh, died Sunday, October 10, 2010 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home in Stamford, NY where she had been a resident for the past four years.

Born May 1, 1919, in Queens, NY, she was a daughter of Thomas and Estelle (Coffey) Hassett.

In 1998, Joan retired from NY Telephone Company in Queens, where she had been an operator for many years. She moved to Middleburgh in 2001 and became a communicant of Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Edward Sprague, who was killed in WW II in 1943, her second husband, Edward Casey, who died in 2003, and a great-grandson, Raymond R. Simeon, who died August of 2010.

Joan was an avid reader, and enjoyed her time spent with family.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen (Raymond) Simeon; four grandsons: Scott (Gail) Simeon, Randy (Janet) Simeon, Todd Simeon, and Dan (Stacey) Simeon; twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandsons, all of Middleburgh.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church, Main St., Middleburgh with Father Thomas F. Holmes as celebrant. Family and friends are also invited to attend a period of visitation to be held from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday at Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh. Burial will be in Middleburgh Cemetery.
