Richmondville- Jerald Curtis Rappleyea, 80, of West Richmondville Road, died May 6, 2010 at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown following a long illness.
Born October 23, 1929 in Little Westkill, NY, he was a son of John A. and Viena B. (Moseman) Rappleyea.
Jerry was a United States Air Force veteran, serving proudly for his country from 1950 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1954. He was a member of the American Legion Post #249 of Richmondville and was past Schoharie County Commander, and a lifetime member of theVFW..
He retired from the New York Telephone Company, where he was a supervisor and he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Jerry was also a member of the Richmondville United Methodist Church, Richmondville Volunteer Fire Dept. for over of forty years, and was a former trustee for the Town of Richmondville.
He loved playing golf, cutting firewood, camping at Indian Lake, fishing and spending time at his camp. Jerry and his wife wintered in New Smyrna Beach, FL and he cherished his time that was spent at frequent family gatherings.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Ella Conklin and a brother, John G. Rappleyea.
Survivors include his wife, Edna E. "Deenie" (Murray) Rappleyea, whom he married March 18, 1951; four sons: Glenn C. (Cathy) Rappleyea of Hobart, Jerald W. (Carolyn) Rappleyea of Grand Gorge, Brian J. (Donna) Rappleyea of Broadalbin, and Jeffrey S. (Christine) Rappleyea of Richmondville; eight grandchildren: Lisa (Daryl) Birdsall, Jerald (Kirsten) Rappleyea, Jonathan Rappleyea, Elisabeth Rappleyea, Lindsay Rappleyea, Joanna Rappleyea, Justine Rappleyea, and Dani Rappleyea; two great-grandchildren: Tyler and Chase Birdsall; and a sister: Loretta Keator.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, Main St., Richmondville, NY with Rev. Marvin Batcher officiating. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private in Fairview Cemetery, Grand Gorge, NY.
