Jean Slater

Cobleskill- Jean M. Slater, 82, died Wednesday, July 29, 2015 at Baptist Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Scotia.

Jean was born on September 17, 1932 in Schoharie to Anna (Wahl) and John Bender, Sr.

She worked as a desk clerk at the former Community Hospital of Cobleskill, but raising her family was her priority.

Jean enjoyed crafts, reading and attending all of the functions where her husband's Country and Western band played.

Jean was predeceased by her husband, LeRoy R. Slater, who died on May 19, 1999. She was also predeceased by a son, Dennis, a sister, Margaret Teidemann, and two brothers, William and Jerry.

She is survived by 3 daughters: Kathleen (David) Yorks of Howes Cave, Deborah (Kenny) Wrobleski of Port St. Lucie, FL, Dawn (William) Townsend of Lawyersville; 2 sons: Mark (Lisa) Slater of Howes Cave, Keith (Christine Bender) Slater of Warnerville; 3 sisters: Nancy Bender of Altamont, Terry (Michael) Piccolo of Warnerville, Priscilla "Penny" (Chuck) Medick of Claudeville, VA; 2 brothers: Ronald (Debbie) Bender of Gallupville, John (Marion) Bender, Jr. of Middleburgh; 13 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and one sister-in-law, Pamela Bender of Gallupville.

A funeral service will be held at 2 pm, Monday, August 3, 2015 at the Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY with Rev. Bert Mayne officiating. A period of visitation will be held from 12-2 pm prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow in Grosvenors Corners Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial donations can be made in Jean's name to either the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
