Janice Hamm

Middleburgh- Janice E. Hamm, 81, of Middleburgh, NY, died Sunday, April 12, 2020 at Robinson Terrace Nursing Home after a long illness.

Born June 17, 1938 in Albany, NY, she was the daughter of George and Mildred (Collins) Mesick.

Janice was a 1956 graduate of the former Cobleskill Central School. She loved working in Sharon Springs as a teenager. She worked for the Grand Union of Cobleskill, Barber’s Farm of Fultonham, Wohl’s Department Store and managed The Yardstick of Cobleskill. Janice was the office manager for Middleburgh Chiropractic from 1985 through 2011. Janice was a very talented seamstress and shared her knowledge with many through the 4H program. She was a charter member of the West Fulton Snowmobile Club. She served on many auxiliaries including the Cobleskill Hospital and West Fulton Fire Department.  She was a Girl Scout troop leader. She was associated with the Zion Lutheran church of Seward, NY, the United Methodist Church of West Fulton, NY and the Reformed Church of Middleburgh.

Janice was predeceased by her husband, Gerald D. Hamm in 2017 with whom she enjoyed a fun-filled marriage and spent many days surrounded by her loving family. She was also predeceased by her sister, Karen Wilson, with whom she shared many adventures.

Surviving Janice are her siblings: Bill (Nancy) Mesick of Montross, VA, Jill Hauser of Ballston Spa, NY, Pete (Cynthia) Mesick of Latham, NY, Betsy (Mark) Godwin of Andover, ME and Nancy (Bill) Bartholomew of Cobleskill, NY. Also surviving Janice are her children; Jeff (Karen) Almy of Middleburgh, NY, Terri (Bret) Hallenbeck of Tolland, CT, Kim (Shawn) Smith, Aaron Hamm and Rachael Hamm of Middleburgh, NY. Janice’s surviving grandchildren are: Ben Healy of Virginia Beach, VA, Jessica (Greg) Woodruff, Justin (Michelle), and Drew Hallenbeck all of Tolland, CT, Brody and Rylie Smith as well as Livy Hamm of Middleburgh, NY. She has 3 surviving great-grandchildren: Cameron Hallenbeck, Liliana Woodruff and Lucas Hallenbeck of Tolland, NY.

Although Janice’s favorite way to spend her time was in the company of family and friends, she also had many hobbies and activities she enjoyed including quilting, sewing, gardening, baking, playing piano, painting, cross-country skiing and taking long walks. The truth is that there are not many people who could accomplish as much in one day as she could.

The family intends to have a memorial service for Janice in the future.
