Janet Griffis

Cobleskill- Janet N. Griffis, 68, of Donats Brow, died Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Ellis Hospital following a brief illness.

Born October 27, 1948 in Rockville Centre, she was the daughter of Harry W. and Natalie F. (DelMar) Butzbach.

Janet was a registered nurse, graduating in 1994 from Ellis Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam from 1994 until 2007 when she started working at Schoharie County ARC, where she retired in 2013.

Her most treasured times were spent with the family, and especially playing games with the grandchildren. She was an avid reader and visited the Community Library of Cobleskill frequently. Most recently, Janet enjoyed following politics.

Janet was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2008, and her sister, Linda, and brother, Gregory.

She is survived by her two children: Julie Griffis (Patrick Drinkwater) of Sharon Springs, and Jason (Elisha) Griffis of Esperance; her brother, Barry Butzbach of Middleburgh; three grandchildren: Jeremy Griffis, Jacie-Joan Griffis, and John-David Griffis, all of Esperance; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Robert Stark as celebrant. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 6 to 8 PM on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Burial will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
