Janet R. Gorton (Wilday), 83, passed away on December 20, 2025, at Palatine Nursing Home.
Janet was born on May 17, 1943, in Sharon Springs, New York. She graduated from Sharon Springs Central School in 1960.
Janet married Frederick Gorton at the Methodist Church in Dorloo, where they built a life together and shared many years of marriage.
She dedicated 38 years of service to Cobleskill Regional Hospital, beginning her career there in 1969 and retiring on July 1, 2007. Over the years, she worked in multiple roles and was also an active member of the hospital auxiliary. Janet was a devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church in Seward and participated in the Salvation Army of Schoharie County.
Janet was predeceased by her husband, Frederick Gorton; her parents, Olin and Ella (Moak) Wilday; her siblings, Shirley Martinez, Richard E. Wilday, and Doris Clancy; her sister-in-law, Kay Wilday; her niece, Melanie Wilday; and her stepson, Melvin Gorton.
She is survived by her sister, Elaine Davenport (Romine); her brother-in-law, Dave Clancy; as well as many stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Janet was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 10:00am at Cobleskill Rural Cemetery with Pastor Paul Messner officiating.
