Cobleskill- Janet C. Coons, 91, died Tuesday June 23, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.

Born November 13, 1928 in Sidney, NY she was the daughter of Theodore and Esther (McLennan) Clarke.

Janet married her loving husband, Richard Coons, on March 7, 1952, they raised their family and spent many years together in Cobleskill. After a move to Maryland NY, Richard died on November 21, 2013.

Janet worked for the Cobleskill Central School as a teacher for many years and after she left the school, she worked at the SUNY Cobleskill Library. She was a member of the Susquehanna Valley Quilters, ¼ inch Club, Grand Strand Quilters, and the Myrtle Beach Shore Birds Quilts of Valor.

In her free time, Janet could be found quilting for charity to benefit Head Start, Quilts of Valor and Upstate Veterans Home to name a few. Janet loved to play cards with her family and friends. She had a love for oysters that was as deep as the sea. Janet had a lifelong love of travel. She cherished her winters spent at the beach in Myrtle Beach.

Janet is survived by her daughters: Alison Coons of Richmondville, NY, Becky (David) Morin of Maryland, NY, Megan (John) Hughes of Grosse Pointe Park, MI and JoAnne Coons of Palmer Lake, CO; her sons: Clarke Coons of Palmer Lake, CO and Todd (Laurie) Coons of Adams, MA; her grandchildren: Arika Botitta of Pueblo, CO, Clarke Hughes of Chicago, IL, Emily Hughes of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, John P. Hughes of Grand Rapids, MI, Malia Coons of Adams, MA, Alyssa Wylde of Milford, MA, Brandon Wylde of Clarksburg, MA, Lydia Botitta of Afton, NY, and Dylan Coons of Palmer Lake, CO.

Memorial contributions can be made in Janet’s name to the Susquehanna SPCA Animal Shelter, 4841 State Highway 28, Cooperstown, NY 13326, or by visiting their website https://sqspca.org/support/make-a-donation.

Private family services will be held. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.
