Jane L. Pinder, 80, of Cobleskill, New York, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Cobleskill Regional Hospital. She had been a resident of the Cobleskill area for the past 55 years.
Born on September 21, 1943, in Millinocket, Maine, she was the daughter of John F. Nutter and Frances Parsons Nutter. She grew up in a little pink house with a view of Mt. Katahdin from her bedroom window, and graduated from Stearns High School in Millinocket. After raising her children, Jane went back to school and earned a Master of Library Science degree from SUNY Albany.
In the 1960s she was a volunteer for the Peace Corps and taught English in the Philippines, after marrying Richard W. Pinder in Maine in 1966. While her children were young, they were Jane's primary focus. She worked at the SUNY Cobleskill Library in the 80s and 90s. After raising her family and receiving her master's degree, she was a Senior Reference Librarian for the New York State Education Department in Albany. She loved her work dearly, and often commuted through blizzards rather than missing a day.
She was an avid reader and a fan of Norman Rockwell paintings. She loved cats, especially Maine Coons, and enjoyed collecting unique rocks. When watching football and basketball, she could always be counted on to root for the underdog. Jane also enjoyed spending quality time with her young grandchildren, providing childcare for her working family.
Jane was predeceased by her parents and her brother, John "Jack" Nutter. She is survived by her husband, Richard W. Pinder of Cobleskill, NY; her four children, Eric Pinder of Berlin, NH, Sara Pinder of Cobleskill, NY, Jennifer (spouse Corey Mackenzie) Pinder of Troy, NY, John (spouse Rebecca) Pinder of Catskill, NY; two grandsons, Jason and Steven Pinder; and her beloved rescue cats, Nova, Lucy, and Rowena.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY 12043. Burial will take place privately in Millinocket, Maine.
