Cobleskill- James T. Wilson, 82, of Jay Street, Cobleskill, died Wednesday, July 5, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 13, 1940, in Cobleskill, NY, he was the son of Robert and Amanda (Simmons) Wilson/Dostie.
A lifelong area resident, Jim was a community minded individual. He joined the Cobleskill Fire Department at the age of 18 and devoted 65 years of service to his community as a fire fighter. Jim was Fire Chief for several years and was their treasurer for over 30 years. He was also a NYS Fire Instructor, which took him around the County to teach and mentor fire fighters throughout Schoharie County. He devoted his time and effort with his fire family which he loved very much.
He was a Scout Master for Troop #5 in Cobleskill for several years. Mentoring many boys and spent many summers at Crumhorn Boy Scout Camp with his Troop.
A hardworking man all his life, Jim started working with his dad delivering milk at age 8 and retired from the former Niagara Mohawk (now National Grid). In his retirement, as he was not one to sit still he drove tow truck for the former Heads and then Borst Tire.
He married Karen Mesick on November 9, 1963, and she preceded him in death on November 16, 2019. His nephew, John Wilson, also predeceased him.
Forever cherishing their memories are his son, Daniel (Jane) Wilson of Thorndale, PA; daughter, Eilene Fisher of Cobleskill, NY; six grandchildren, Caleb Wilson, Thomas Fisher, Aidan Wilson, Joseph Fisher, Ryan Wilson, Mary Katharine Wilson; brother, Lawrence Wilson of South Carolina; sister, Patricia Furlong of Schenectady; his faithful companion/dog, Hank; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A special thank you to his two aides who made it possible for him to come home and have nine more months with him family. Thank you, Jim, and Rachel. We are so thankful for your time and love you gave to our father.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday, July 29, 2023, from 2:00-4:00pm at Cobleskill Fire Department, 610 E. Main Street, Cobleskill, NY with a Fireman's service at 4:00pm and a reception to follow. Burial will take place privately at Seward Valley Cemetery.
