James V. Vrooman

Cobleskill- James V. Vrooman, 86, formerly of Sharon Springs and Cobleskill, died Friday, May 27, 2022, at River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam where he had been a resident for the past month.

Born October 31, 1935, in Cooperstown, he was the son of Herbert and Rosemary (Rafferty) Vrooman, Sr. Jim was a graduate of Sharon Springs Central School. He was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country from 1955 until 1958 when he received an honorable discharge.

He was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver for many years before retiring. He and his wife, Shirley, loved to travel with their camper to many areas throughout the US, including Florida, Tennessee, and Alaska. Jim was an outdoorsman and proclaimed that if you didn't own a Ford truck, you shouldn't have a truck.  He treasured his time spent with family and friends and enjoyed watching Fox news.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley (McMullen) Vrooman of Amsterdam; two stepsons: George (Amy) Liddle of Rexford and Bruce (Jodi) Liddle of Esperance; three sons: James (Joanie) Vrooman, Jr. of West Winfield, Douglas (Fran) Vrooman of Clinton, TN, and Mark (Marianne) Vrooman of Laconia, NH; two sisters: Bernadetta Vrooman and Mary Ann (Edwin) Larkin all of Sharon Springs; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a brother, Herbert Vrooman, Jr. and sister, Herta Mary Vrooman.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service to be held at 11AM on Monday, June 6, 2022, at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill where a calling hour will be held from 10AM until the commencement of the service.  Deacon Joseph Cechnicki will officiate.  Burial with military honors will follow at Slate Hill Cemetery, town of Sharon, NY.
