James Tissiere

Hyndsville - James (Jim) S. Tissiere , 78, of Clove Road, died unexpectedly on Saturday, November 13, 2010 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany, NY.

He was the son of the late Leon and Verna (Spooner) Tissiere and is survived by his wife of 54 years, Angela (Giumento) Tissiere; two sons: Stephen (Linda) of Richmond, VA, and James (Sandy) of Westerly, RI; five grandchildren: Alex, Jackie, Matt, Dan, and Sean; his siblings: Robert, Phillip (Shirley Bennett) and Mary Lou Harris, and many nieces and nephews.

Jim grew up in Cobleskill and was a beloved member of the community for almost eight decades. He cherished spending time with his family, especially his five grandchildren, and with all of his friends. Jim will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his compassion, and his selfless nature. He always brightened up every room he entered with his quick smile and loving nature.

From 1954 to 1956, Jim served in the U.S. Army, during which time he met his wife, Angie. In 1994 he retired from the NY State Department of Transportation after a 24 year career. He was known by many for his love of bowling, coaching Little League baseball, being a Boy Scout Leader, and serving as past president and member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aeries #2695. He also had an enormous passion for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing.

One of Jim's most memorable pastimes was his membership in the Punkin Holler Gang - the "gang" entertained hundreds of spectators at local parades in the Central NY area. In addition, Jim was highly respected for the countless hours he spent over the last 20 years as a member of the Zion Rural Cemetery Association, where he served in many capacities taking care of the cemetery in Seward, NY.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill, with Sister Connie James officiating. Burial will follow in Zion Rural Cemetery, Seward, NY. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Tues. at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Zion Rural Cemetery Assoc., care of John Bates, 5800 State Route 10, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
