Middleburgh- James C. Spickerman, 87, of Frisbieville Road, died Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at his residence.
Born October 28, 1922 on the family dairy farm in Middleburgh, he was a son of Clark and Edna (Nethaway) Spickerman. Jim was a lifelong area resident, graduating with the class of 1939 from Middleburgh Central School. He continued with the family farm until 1966.
In 1963 he built the Twin Oaks Campground and operated it until selling in 1969. Jim was then hired as a bus mechanic for Middleburgh Central School until 1985 when he became a school bus driver. He retired after ten more years of service.
He was a former member of Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge #2040 in Cobleskill, East Cobleskill Grange, and Schoharie County Farm Bureau. Jim was also a member of the Middleburgh Rod and Gun Club, where he served as president from 1962 until 1963.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Mann Spickerman, whom he married April 23, 1955; four children: Kari Burdeau(Stephen) of Phoenixville, PA, Charley Spickerman(Laura) of Middleburgh, Clark Spickerman(Tammy) of Malta, NY, and Gerald Spickerman(Jackie) of Oxford, MA; fourteen grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Old Stone Fort Cemetery at a later date at the convenience of the family. There will be no calling hours.
