James O'Neill

Richmondville- James J. O'Neill, 76, of Ploss Road, died Sunday, February 22, 2009 at his residence with his family as his side.
James was born September 17, 1932, in Staten Island, the son of Hugh and Helen O'Neill. He was a United States Army Veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict, from 1951 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1953.
James had been a resident of Staten Island most of his life, moving to Richmondville in 1995. He retired from the Staten Island Rapid Transit where he was a railroad conductor for many years.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the Cobleskill Country Club. He also enjoyed skiing, but mostly treasured his time spent with family.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Irene (Van Pelt) O'Neill; his son, James (Karen) O'Neill of Summit; his daughter, Susan (George) Telepan of East Brunswick, NJ; 5 grandsons: William Matthews of East Brunswick, NJ, Kevin O'Neill and Thomas O'Neill, both of Summit, Brett Telepan and Brandon Telepan, both of East Brunswick, NJ; a sister, Katherine Shoe of Michigan; and 3 brothers: David O'Neill of Gilboa, Michael O'Neill of Arizona, and Hugh O'Neill of Staten Island.
A funeral liturgy will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, February 27, 2009 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Robert Stark, Lay Presider of St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cobleskill, officiating. Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation at the funeral home on Thursday, from 6 to 8 PM. Burial with full military honors will follow the liturgy on Friday at the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
