Middleburgh: James H. Mears, 60, of Railroad Ave., died peacefully, Thursday, July 16, 2009 at his sister, Marcella's home in Durham, NY, where he had been under her care.
Mr. Mears was born on June 25, 1949, in Cambridge, MA. a son of the late Henrietta (Reynolds) and Joseph H. Mears.
Mr. Mears served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1971 and was a member of the Timothy Murphy Post # 248, American Legion, in Middleburgh, NY.
He worked as a laborer for the Village of Middleburgh. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, jigsaw puzzles and building model airplanes and was a Mets fan.
Mr. Mears was predeceased by a sister: Sandra Mears Bouck and a brother: Joseph Mears.
He is survived by his daughter: Erin (George) Mears of Brooklyn, NY; son: Todd (Kristen) Mears of Mocksville, NC; sisters: Marcella Mears (Stanley) Wood of Durham, NY, Betsy Mears (Robert) Mueller of Schoharie, NY, Lois Mears (Wes) Edwards of Cobleskill, NY, Debbie Mears (Tim)Vollmer of Scotia, NY, his brother: Thomas (Linda) Mears of Liberty, NY; two grandsons: Oliver and Jameson Mears, both of Mocksville, NC and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11am Monday, July 20, 2009 at the Palmer & Shaylor Funeral Home, 134 River St., Middleburgh, NY with Rev. Carol Coltrain of the Huntersland United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Livingstonville Cemetery, Livingstonville, NY. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation at the funeral home from 10-11am Monday, prior to the service.
