Gloversville- James M. Karker, 55, of Yale St., formerly of Richmondville, died unexpectedly on Thurs., April 19, 2012 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born March 30, 1957 in Cobleskill, he was the son of O'Rhea (Quinn) Karker, who survives him, and the late Maurice Karker.
Jim was a graduate of the former Richmondville Central School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He proudly served his country from 1977 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1983. Four years of his tour of duty were spent on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower Aircraft Carrier.
He had been employed at Somerset in Gloversville for several years as an electrician machinist.
Jim was a former member of the Richmondville Volunteer Fire Department and loved riding his motorcycle and hunting. He was of Catholic faith.
Survivors include his five sons: Jacob Karker of Schenectady, Matthew Karker of Richmondville, Joseph Karker of Albany, Patrick Karker and Christopher Grady Karker both of Richmondville; his mother: O'Rhea Karker of Richmondville; and three grandchildren: Nicholas, Landon and Brian.
Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Monday, April 23, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Richmondville Rural Cemetery with Sister Connie James of St. Vincent de Paul Church officiating.
