Richmondville- Jack Sawyer, 67, formerly of Richmondville, died peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 with his loving family at his side at the Samuel Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany.
Born January 30, 1949 in Cooperstown, he was the son of Raymond and Thelma (Bennett) Sawyer. Jack lived in Westford during his early childhood and later moved to Richmondville to live on the family farm.
He was a United States Army veteran, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam era from 1966 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1970.
Jack loved to attend stock car races, enjoyed hunting and partying with family and friends.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers: Richard, Robert, and Bennett Sawyer.
Survivors include his sister: Rose Johnson of MA; five nieces: Christina Sawyer (Kurt) of Fultonville, Lisa Sawyer of Fort Johnson, Rebecca Sawyer (Tim) of Sloansville, Corinna Reynolds of Sloansville, and Rhonda Blackman of NC; three nephews: Paul (Denise) Sawyer of Richmondville, Richard (Sally) Sawyer of Westford, and Charles Burton of Central Bridge; a sister-in-law: Kim Sawyer of Richmondville and numerous friends.
There will be no formal funeral service or calling hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Leatherstocking Honor Flight, PO Box 621, Cobleskill, NY 12043.
