Sharon Springs- Ivan King, 83, formerly of Sharon Springs, died Sunday, October 30, 2011 at his daughter's residence in Broadalbin where he and his wife had lived the past few years.
Born June 6, 1928 in Cobleskill, Ivan was a son of Claude and Flossie (Dibble) King. Ivan was a lifelong area resident and was a self employed carpenter.
His hobbies included gardening, collecting marbles and elephant pieces, hunting, fishing, raising pheasants and peacocks, and playing cards. He was a simple, down-to-earth, hard working man whose passion was woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Josephine (Nirschl) King, whom he married August 12, 1950; three daughters: Hollis Ann (Douglas) Hall of Canajoharie, Diane Lynn (George) Spohn of Sharon Springs, Kimberly Jean Van Dycke of Broadalbin; eight grandchildren:Mackenzie Douglas and Pamela Hall of Cobleskill, Athena Hall of Stephen City, VA, George Ivan and Brandie Spohn of Cobleskill, Zachary James and Hannah Spohn of Carlisle, Mickie Sue Spohn and her fiance, Ian Yorks of Waterford, and Justin John and Davona Van Dycke of Schenectady, Ivan Roy and Candice Van Dycke of Hudson Falls, and Cassady Jo and Michael Crosier of Broadalbin, and nine great-grandchildren: Gabriel Anthony and Noel Marie Hall, Tanner Jared and Haeley Marie Spohn, Theresa Evelynne and Gustave Upton Spohn, Michael Allan Robert Crosier, Samantha and Dean Hoehn; one sister, Iola (Richard) Weigel of Sharon Springs; one brother: Grant (Alberta) King of St. Petersburg, FL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Ivan was predeceased by two sisters, three brothers, and his son-in-law, Robert Roy Van Dycke.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Pacia Ferrell Vamvas of the Sharon Reformed Church officiating. Burial will follow in Slate Hill Cemetery, Sharon Springs. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral home from 5 to 7 PM on Wednesday.
