Ira Gelber, 78, of State Highway 10, Cobleskill, New York died Thursday, March 20, 2025.

Born on October 9, 1946, in Bronx, New York, he was the son of Paul and Pearl Gelber. He was a graduate of Oceanside High School, Class of 1964. He later went on to graduate from CW Post with a bachelor's degree and from SUNY Stony Brook with a master's degree in education. He had been a resident of the Cobleskill area since August 31, 1988, previously residing in Smithtown, Long Island.

Mr. Gelber was a Middle School Science Teacher for Huntington Station Long Island for 31 years, retiring in 2000. While working for the school, Mr. Gelber also coached boys' lacrosse.

Ira had a passion for racing, whether it be 2 wheels or 4. He was an avid racecar driver and was a member of various road racing associations and motor clubs. He enjoyed working on cars. He was an avid golf and tennis player, and he loved the beach.

He was predeceased by his parents Pearl and Paul Gelber; brothers Arnold and Michael Gelber; nephew Danny Gelber; father-in-law and mother-in-law Pierce and Winnie Wentworth; brothers-in-law John Wentworth, Calvin Wentworth, and Mitch Gary; sisters-in-law Kay Buhler and Mary Wentworth.

Ira is survived by his wife of over 53 years Ann Wentworth Gelber; Ira's daughter Rachel Gelber Schmitz and her husband Nicholas Schmitz II and their son Ethan Schmitz; Ira's son Joshua Gelber and his daughter Harper; brothers-in-law David Wentworth, William (Caroline) Wentworth, Craig (Bonnie) Wentworth; sisters-in-law
Jan Wentworth, Kim Wentworth (Richard Tracy), and Melanie Gelber; niece Sharon Gelber (Gary Friedman) and their sons; as well as many other nieces, and nephews.

At Ira's request there will be no formal services.
