Charleston Four Corners- Howard J. Rickard, Sr., 87, formerly of Charleston Four Corners, died Friday, February 26, 2016 at Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown where he had been a resident for the past three years.
Born July 26, 1928 in Oak Ridge, NY, he was the son of Mildred (Humphrey) and LeRoy Rickard.
At the age of 16, Howard graduated from Draper High School and began his career at General Electric as a junior clerk in the payroll department. He interrupted his employment at GE to work at the Army Depot for nineteen years, and in 1967 went back to General Electric. Howard worked in various capacities, from invoicing, warehouse, and facilities. He retired in 1990 as Shipping and Transportation Specialist for Distribution Services.
He married Anna May Watson on June 24, 1950 and she predeceased him on February 7, 2015.
Howard attended Charleston Christian Church and in his leisure, he enjoyed woodworking, rebuilding cars, refinishing antiques, swimming and camping.
Survivors include his children: Howard J. (Cathy) Rickard, Jr. of Cobleskill, George (Beth) Rickard of Bismarck, ND, Ronald (Deborah) Rickard of Sprakers, Stephen (Claudia) Rickard of Canajoharie, Kathleen (Charles) McMullen of Sprakers, Barbara (Eli) Hall of Amberson, PA; his sister: Eris Applebee of Catskill, NY; his brother: Bud Rickard of Charleston Four Corners; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 11 AM to 1 PM at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. A private graveside service will be held at Christian Church Cemetery, Charleston Four Corners.
