Herbert Natten

Cobleskill- Herbert L. Van Natten, 92, of Cobleskill, died Friday, August 17, 2012.

He was born May 5, 1920 in Schoharie and was the son of Harold and Alta Ruth (Luckey) Van Natten.

Herb worked for many years as a self-employed carpenter, and also worked for Righi Brothers. He retired in 1983as a machinist from General Electric in Schenectady.

He was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Cobleskill, a former Scout Master for Troop 64 in Hyndsville, and Schoharie Shunpikers Camping Club. Herbie was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard from 1942 until his discharge in 1945. He was honored as an attendee on the 2010 Leatherstocking Honor Flight, which was the first time flying in his life.

Herb was predeceased by his wife, Frances, who died in July 23, 2008 and a sister, Catherine Phillips.

He is survived by three sons; Herbert H. (Linda) Van Natten of Cobleskill, Arthur John (Sandy) Van Natten of Blythewood, SC, and Charles E. (Cathy) Van Natten of Rotterdam, as well as 14 grandchildren, 20 great- grandchildren, and 1 great-great-granddaughter.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at the Wesleyan Church, Legion Drive, Cobleskill, with Rev. Donald Klob officiating. Calling hours will be held from 6 - 8 pm on Monday, August 20, 2012 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm Street, Cobleskill, NY. Burial will follow in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
